Year 7 students have made a tremendous start to Highgate Wood School. The group have very quickly settled into the school community, and as a Year Group, they have worked extremely hard within lessons, joined many clubs, become involved in many extra curricular activities, and have consistently demonstrated ‘Consideration’ , ‘Courtesy’, ‘Cooperation’ and in general ‘Contributed’ fantastically well.
With this in mind, and as a reward for their efforts, a Cinema Rewards Visit will take place on Friday 4th December
Students should attend school as normal, in uniform, on Friday 4th.
At 9.00am, following a short assembly, students, supervised by staff will make their way by foot to the Odeon Cinema in Muswell Hill.
Following our arrival at 10.00am, students will be given the opportunity to purchase snacks and refreshments from the Cinema Foyer – (although they are also very welcome to bring suitable drinks and snacks from home).
An appropriate film will be shown to students, on the Cinema’s main screen at 10.30am.
At 12.00, students will leave the cinema and be escorted back to the school site. Students will enjoy their lunch break as normal, before completing some further activities during the final lesson of the day. They will be dismissed from the school site as usual at 3.10pm.
There is no cost for the visit, and I would hope that all students attend. To enable your child to do so, please complete the permission slip below, and return it to their tutor before Friday 27th November.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Year 7 Homework Projects
The concept of homework projects for Year 7 students, was newly introduced this year. There are several rationale's of this, one being a more structured/balanced approach to the setting and monitoring of homework - which we hope will help you and your children understand when and for which subjects homework will be set.
Aside of Maths, English, Science and Languages homework, which is set regularly, students have been asked to complete the projects over a half term - 2-3 subject projects at a time. There have however been teething problems, which have led to ICT and PE becoming delayed. I apologise if this has caused inconvenience or concern, and conscious that issuing these projects now could caused an overload of project work. This half term students will be asked to complete projects in Drama and Music, with the addition of ICT. The PE project will now be issued after Christmas, with Art and History projects.
I hope this clarifies.

(And don’t forget to bring money for a fundraising cake sale next Thursday, 12th November!)

Academic Review Day
If you are not already aware, lessons are cancelled on Thursday 5th November as Academic Review Day will be taking place. This is an opporunity for parents/carers, with their child to come to the school and speak with their Form Tutor, regarding their progress to date, and how they have settled at the school. Your childs Form Tutor should already have been in contact with you regarding an appointment time. If not, please do not hesitate to contact them via email of telephone.
Year 7 Toilet Concerns
Following concerns raised at the recent Year 7 PSA meeting regarding the cleanliness of student toilets, the matter was discuss within the School Leadership Team - led by Mr Cozier.
The following actions have been agreed;
1. The toilets will be cleaned if required during the school day,
2. The toilets will be patrolled more regularly, by the School Leadership Team whilst on duty (one member is on duty during every lesson of the school day),
3. The toilets will be more thoroughly at the end of each school day.
